HSE Part 4 Professional Scuba Diver Course

The HSE Part IV Recompression Chamber approved Professional Scuba qualification is required by all professionals who work underwater in a professional capacity, such as: filming, actors & presenters, commercial divers, marine biologists, marine archaeologists and anyone working underwater.

The London Diving Chamber is an approved recompression chamber for the chamber familiarisation section of part IV of the HSE Professional Diver Course.

This course is only for participants of the HSE part IV Professional Scuba Diver Course.

The chamber familiarisation involves:

Pre-Dive preparations

As a member of a dive team, a professional diver will be expected to have knowledge of the pre-dive procedures of a two compartment recompression chamber.

Underwater deployment

Each member of a professional dive team will be expected, under supervision, to have knowledge of the functions and procedures for acting as an attendant inside a two compartment recompression chamber.

Chamber dive to 40 metres

As a diver, the participant will undertake a chamber dive to 40 metres. This dive is to ensure that layout, functions, uses and limitations of recompression chambers are understood by the diver and that the symptoms and effects of nitrogen narcosis are experienced.

Recompression Chamber Operation

As a member of a dive team, a professional diver will be expected to have knowledge, under supervision, of the functions and procedures for operating a two compartment recompression chamber.

Handling Emergency Procedures

As an inside attendant in a recompression chamber, each participant will gain knowledge of the conduct of a therapeutic recompression. Through a classroom simulation, under the instruction of the recompression chamber supervisor, participants will be shown:

  • How the condition of the patient during therapy is assessed and monitored to ensure recovery is progressing satisfactorily
  • How the results of observations are reported regularly to the recompression chamber supervisor.

Post-Dive procedures

The participants will be trained in the post-dive recompression chamber checks and maintenance. They will be demonstrated on how a recompression chamber is made ready for the next dive including:

  • The appropriate actions to be taken in accordance with hygiene and maintenance procedures, with the aid of an authorized check list.
  • Recompression chamber shut down, in accordance with operational procedures with the aid of an authorized check list.
